Are expensive beauty products worth it? #BeautyDebate

I ask myself this question all the time. I see a new product but its way out of my budget or I'll need a new foundation and consider investing in a high end product. Are expensive beauty products worth the splurge though? I definitely think it depends on the type of product. Base items such as foundation or concealer can often perform better if they are more expensive. Other items like blusher or powder I don't think you have to spend a lot of money on. Plus the Highstreet has really upped its game within the last few years. Brands such as Seventeen, Collection and Revlon are launching great products which turn into cult beauty buys. I think drugstore brands are leading the way in the beauty industry. As you know I love a good bargain and I'm a Boots gal at heart; however, there are some beauty products (EL Double Wear Light) which I'm happy to pay a bit more for because I know they really work.

I asked on twitter your thoughts on this weeks #BeautyDebate and received a really mixed response - thank you for taking part!
So what are your thoughts?

  1. Good question! I think it really varies. I tend to go for more expensive products for skincare and haircare, but for make-up, I have a really mixed collection. The highstreet has definitely got better than when I first started using make-up and I think you can get some really great brands now.

  2. This was a great post :) I really like high end foundations as they work better on my skin & I prefer high end skin care items too but I totally agree that you can get some amazing high street items specifically blusher, powders & even lipsticks :)

  3. This was such a good post & really made me question whether my decision to sway towards high end products more. For me I find that high end bases work best for my skin & I prefer to spend a little more on skin care but blusher, powder & mascara are excellent from the high street :)

  4. Its always a constant struggle when it comes to justifying high end beauty purchases. I always do some review searching before I buy and if possible I will try to get a sample of the product so I know it will agree with me.

  5. I think I tweeted you at the time - it really depends on the quality, the ingredients and whether the product works well enough to warrant being so costly x

  6. I tend to splurge more on skincare for the better ingredients, when it comes to makeup it depends what it is. I use talc free powders which you can rarely get on the high street and they always cost more. xx
